Surgical care, where it is needed most.
A surgical mission to Cornwall Regional Hospital, Montego Bay, Jamaica, in May 2027. Surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, allied health, trainees, and volunteers, working alongside the hospital's own teams.
Expanding access to surgical care.
Geographic and economic barriers continue to limit access to essential surgical services. Harris Vascular Institute is committed to addressing these disparities through international medical collaboration, surgical outreach, and community-centered care.
We are assembling the May 2027 team for Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica: surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nurses, allied health professionals, trainees, and support volunteers, working with the hospital's own clinicians to care for patients facing unmet surgical needs. Roles are matched to the scope agreed with hospital leadership.
The mission is developed with hospital leadership, so the scope of care, equipment, and credentialing are settled before the team travels. St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, is the next planned site.

Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Cornwall Regional is the only Type A hospital in western Jamaica, located in Mount Salem, Montego Bay, and operated by the Western Regional Health Authority on behalf of the Ministry of Health. It opened to the public in May 1974 and is the referral center for the western parishes.
Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, damaged roughly half of the hospital's ward space on October 28, 2025. The Gleaner reported on February 10, 2026 that bed capacity had fallen from 350 to 176 after the storm and that several wards had since been restored. Those figures describe the post-storm period, not capacity in May 2027. The scope of care for the mission will be finalized with hospital leadership before the team travels.

- We also need non-clinical volunteers for logistics and communications.
- Can't travel in May 2027? Register anyway, and we will write when the St. Croix dates are set.

Part of what drew me to surgery was watching organizations like Doctors Without Borders and Operation Smile at work. Teams of clinicians, doing what they had trained to do and loved to do, were changing hundreds of lives in a matter of weeks. The scale of that impact, achieved simply by bringing skill to the places that lacked it, stayed with me through training and into practice.
I have spent much of my career caring for patients in communities where access to vascular care is limited, and I have seen how much a timely operation can change the course of a life. Cornwall Regional Hospital is an extension of that work. I am committed to doing whatever I can, wherever I can, to bring surgical care to people who need it, and to doing it alongside colleagues who feel the same way.
If that describes you, I hope you will join us in May.
